Office of Internal Justice
This website contains information for current and former members of personnel who are involved in an appeal or disciplinary procedure, or who are considering lodging an appeal. It sets out the applicable rules and procedures and provides guidance relevant to the conduct of such proceedings.
The Internal Justice Secretariat is independent, it reports directly to the Director-General and serves as the registry and support office to the
– Joint Advisory Appeals Board (JAAB)
– Joint Advisory Disciplinary Board (JADB).
In accordance with Article R VI 3.08 of the CERN Staff Rules and Regulations, the Internal Justice Secretariat provides administrative and legal support to the JAAB and the JADB and ensures the orderly conduct of proceedings in accordance with the applicable procedures.
The Internal Justice Secretariat operates in accordance with the Organisation’s legal framework and is guided by the principles of fairness, respect and integrity.
Its mission is to promote and support the effective and independent administration of the Organisation’s internal justice system.
By applying these principles, the Internal Justice Secretariat contributes to confidence in CERN’s internal justice system and to an accountable, respectful and inclusive workplace.
What you need to know
There are two distinct procedures, depending on the circumstances:
- You want to challenge an administrative decision that affects your situation: you can first submit a request for review, a simpler and faster opportunity for the Administration to reconsider its decision. The request for review is a mandatory step before you can lodge a formal appeal;
- You are involved in a disciplinary procedure.
